BEGINNING OF THE END
2/20/02.

Hello Maria.

Here’s the note you requested from our Information Technology Manager regarding the door-key records he provided.

As I mentioned, the “time in / time out” & “elapsed time” information can appear to be a little misleading. We need our electronic keys to enter the building, but only need them to exit after 9pm. Before that time, anyone can exit from the inside without a key. As a result, I use the key every time I enter the building, but only use it to exit when I leave after 9pm. In a normal day, I use the key to enter in the afternoon (around 1pm), again when I return from lunch (usually around 8pm), then a third time when I leave the building at the end of the day. As a result, what appears as my first “time out” of the day would truly be me coming back from lunch, the next “time in” is me leaving at the end of the day, and the next “time out” would actually be me arriving for work the following day.

The records are in military time, as you can see. The records for these days show me arriving at work at 12:41pm on the 27th, coming back from my lunch break at 8:25pm, leaving again at 12:44am, then coming in at 12:57pm the next day. Clearly, there's no way I could have been at the intersection in question at 11:45pm that first night.

I’d be interested in seeing a copy of the accident report that started all of this. Since the hit & run investigator has never returned my phone calls, I wonder if you’d be able to send a copy to me at one of the addresses below.

Once we have this all put to bed I’ll call the hit & run investigator again and see what I have to do to make sure there are no marks on my driving record in the future as a result of the bogus accident report.

Thanks again, and let me know if there’s anything more I need to provide.

- Ross
